Seth Godin… how he hides nuggets…in nudges

For me, Seth Godin’s Blog writings, the updates I get every day or so, are  nudges filled with nuggets!

Each one gives me something to think about in a new, unrelated relevant perspective. He speaks of friends, yet, asks us to consider what is the new definition of friends. He speaks of camps vs. conferences… which made me think of how I find, give, participate in teaching, learning, training, or researching. He brings us into a relatedness with Singer and how we see the roll of companies in our economy.

I’ve been following him for a while now and from the very beginning, his posts took my hand and gently massaged my brain to expand.

What can we learn from this perceived ‘ease’ with which he nudges us with new nuggets for seeing, thinking, doing…? How can it fit in how you see your business, service or company moving forward in this ever changing economy, and socializing world?

I encourage you to ask your questions and wet your eyes, cleaning out the cobwebs that have gathered there…with drops of new wisdoms.

Business & Branding: What Can We Learn From the Twitter Replies Option Change/Not-Changed?

bin_branding_3in

Sometimes we just need to slow down and consider our clients and their motivators.

Twitter didn’t do that in my opinion… and had to reassess their action and did a quick back-step. I was wondering just how many of their employees actually are using twitter and did they even poll them to see how they liked the function of ‘replies’. And now, we users are primed for future changes, but not in the way I think twitter intended! Improvements in their eyes but in ours, their clients, a problem, a restriction.

I like twitter. (follow me here KarrieRoss on twitter) I’ve made some really interesting connections with people I wouldn’t have normally met. It could be because of location, industry, interests… but, twitter brings us all together in a sharing capacity and, for me, that is what the replies action is all about. Being able to carry on a conversation and share it with others and at the same time spreading who I am to people who might not know me, but the person I’m conversing with…NETWORKING

Now, lets take this lesson and apply it to your book, product or business.

When positioning your business and motivating your customers always remember to see your actions from your clients perspective and ask the question “Will this add to their benefit or not?”

Remember, do something everyday toward your book design, product or small business promotion and branding.

Book Design: What’s in a Books Title?

bookdesign_3d_iconAnother conversation happened this morning with a loverly person about the title and image to use for their book cover.

Over the years I’ve found that this is something that the client brings with them parts and pieces to the discussion and I play the devils advocate and asker-of-many-questions that will lead us to the final solution.

That’s what  it’s about, really. Solution. The combination of the author and the designer together collaborating toward the best words, visual and direction for the book cover and interior design. It can sometimes seem like magic when it happens. And it’s also a process of discovery. I’ve been through it many times…and find it stimulating.

If you are at that point in your project that you need just that little push…give me a call and lets discuss your project.

Remember, do something every day toward your book branding and promotion… Ask me about my Consulting Serivces.

Be A Smile: Johnny Carson and Dom DeLuise

Johnny was one of the great showmen I can think of…I remember watching his show regularly for years in my early twenties. His ability to share his sense of ‘now’ with others in the form of laughter was one-of-a-kind magic. Here he is with the famous Egg trick and spectacular unexpected ending.

These two guys always had a new perspective, a new way to view a particular situation with wit and humor and sometimes silliness…they knew how to ‘be a smile’ that everyone would remember.

EnergyOS: Don’t Play Small… Nelson Mandela

A friend just sent this to me, and I love it each time I read it… and each time I read it, a different part stands out for me to question. (As I’m not a religious person, I substitute the word ‘energy’ for God, it just works better for me.) This time the phrase “Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.” is the part that stands out.

I ask, “Just WHO am I NOT to be playing it BIG?” what makes me think I can’t? Usually this time of the year I just participated in an EarthDay event in Santa Monica with my line of characters Bebuddies. This year the event is not until June? I found myself thinking that the Bebuddies will never have a chance to make the difference I know they have, can and will make in thousands of peoples lives. That I was doing everyone a dis-service by stopping the passion I feel for their progress…then I reread this quote by Nelson Mandela and realized I was thinking small. Thank goodness for wake up calls no matter how they come to you…it’s the awakening of spirit, your personal drive, energyOS that pushes you forward to success. Watch out Barney and Mickey… here comes the Bebuddies!

I hope with viewing this, be it your first or 15th time, you will find some part that will answer the questions you are asking internally of yourself, today.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our LIGHT not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’

You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. You were born to manifest the glory of God that is within you.

It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we’re liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”–Nelson Mandela

Book Design: “Who Sold My Cheese” A book about sales.

bcdricon72webThis is a great book by Kirk and Mary Kjelllberg that deals with the art of sales and creating the relationships necessary for sales success. Told in a story within a story format this book hits the spot.

I enjoyed working with Kirk and Mary on the cover and interior design of this book. If sales is something you need to learn about, this is your book. http://www.whosoldmycheese.com …. Available as single copy and contact them for quantity and custom book sales.

kirk_cheese_cvr_3d_72web“Who sold my cheese was a wonderfully written book that teaches both new and veteran sales professionals the art of relationship sales. The content is transferable to any industry and is applicable to all employees within an organization. I would highly recommend business owners purchase this book for their staff. EnergyOS: Do You Know What You Want…

energyoscoachbasHa! Have you ever said “I wish I knew what I wanted….” I know I have. Whether it was about a relationship, business or a personal life choice. “What do I want?” has come up at one time or another.

We move through life from one day to the next, making decisions as situations occur and then one day we “wake up” and wonder where we are, why and how’d we get here, and we feel lost and disoriented. But what did you want in the first place and you can’t answer the questions or you think how did I get so far from that dream? What did you make it mean and the importance you placed on it?

A life or midlife crisis is about not knowing and being in a place of not being able to move your mind, your thoughts, your perspective or your dreams into the “what’s next” in your life. You might have experienced a loss of some kind, a loved one, a job, a dream or something else that has “upset” the perception of what is normal for you. I’ve experienced it and have moved through into the new dream. But when you are in this phase, you are not always thinking clearly so I’ve developed a process that helps. Here are a few pointers:

1. Acknowledge that you actually feel this way.
2. Start writing out what those feelings are|
3. Ask yourself if you did know what you wanted what would that be.
4. and most important what do you make it mean and why

What are you doing with your energy?.
