Book Design: Promoting Your Book With Articles

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

How does one promote their book? “Persistence and determination” are the best ways.
I suggest you plan to do two or three things on an ongoing basis, you’ll find this will eventually bring you the notoriety you are looking for.

Articles are one of the first and best ways for getting noticed.

The 5 Tip format is as follow:
1. create an outline – list several important points of relatedness from your book to current news and events
2. create a title that covers several keywords relating to the subject you’ve choosen
3. think about what is next for your audience to be interested in
4. take your list and explain 2-3 of the points in greater detail
5. determine what your audiences’ desires are and write a little about how your book can help

People want more information, and if you offer them easy ways to get it, they will respond with interest.

No matter what your subject, writing articles will help you take the first step to promoting your book.

Remember, do something every day toward your book and promotion.

Self Publishing: A success story for Bunny!

From time-to-time I received emails thanking me and telling me about success stories. Here is one I received recently from Bunny Mitchel in the UK.

—————-
From: “bunny mitchell”

Hi Karrie
I just wanted to write to thank you, most sincerely for all the emails you have sent me with advice on self publishing. I have found them so helpful and, working on a tight budget, have really appreciated this free advice.

The best advice you gave me was to do something every day towards my book. I am excited to be having a book launch on 4th August and already have over 60 pre-publication orders.

Thought you might like to see my book cover design that I made with your guidance. I am very proud of it.
Thank you once again

Book Writing: Telling Stories

From time-to-time I receive emails from people who hear about me.. here is one I received today.
Thank you David!

From: David Dantes
Subject: Telling stories

I read your entry in Poynter’s newsletter about telling stories and I CAN NOT agree more.

I’m about to start selling my first book on becoming a better lawyer, probably as an ebook.

It’s 73,000 words.
And I found that THE BEST WAY to write it was:

“Here’s a principle you need to learn to become better at this.
“And here’s the story of how I learned it.”

I’ve found that by merely repeating the title of that section to someone that’s heard the story, the story — and the principle — come back to mind rather quickly.

Thank you for your entry.
Let’s hope A LOT of writers take you to heart.
David Dantes

He was born on Manhattan’s West Side, attended The Bronx High School of Science and graduated from City College of New York.  Although he worked in the industry as a publishing salesman and later as a bookseller, his passions were writing and storytelling.  “Neighborhood Boys Who Ran” is his salute to the city he loved.

Book Design and Spines…

The spine is the smallest part of your book marketing. Depending on the number of pages you write will determine the size of your spine.

Some suggestions for your spine:

1. Make it a different color than your front cover

2. Use a photo at the top

3. Make it easy to read

4. Place a publisher logo at the base

5. If you have a wide enough spine, have the information show in the normal read position not turned vertically

Spine measurements are determined by the number of pages and the paper width. Cream color tends to be thicker than white. If you use an offset printer you’ll have a more diverse selection of paper to use. If you us a POD printer your selection might not be so diverse.

Let me know your thoughts.

Holocaust Exposed by Nigel Woodley

Holo_CVR_3D_72web

My phone rang one day and Nigel was on the other end… from New Zealand! What a joy he was to work with, very upbeat but on a mission… his cover needed to be done NOW! The printer was waiting.

“Nigel Woodley has been the pastor of the Flaxmere Christian Fellowship in Hastings, New Zealand since 1982. …….  It took him years to build up the courage to write such a significant book about the Holocaust, ever wanting to be sensitive to those who suffered during those terrible years. But now the time has arrived. The result is a book he feels will educate the Christian, speak to the Jew, and enlighten all people of every culture regarding the darkest period in the history of the human race.” (taken from his website http://www.holocaustexposed.co.nz/)  “God is in the book!” is Nigel’s declaration.

Book Promotions: Why use a 3D image to represent your book…and especially your ebook…

We are motivated by our senses. With book design sight is most pronounced. We have the cover image and title… our eyes read before and at the same time our mind clicks in to comprehend the connection. The 3D book image brings your book alive and into a space of reality. There are several different styles for the 3D cover.

BCDRicon72webThe spiral binding image:  usually used for a F**R-E=E ebook or just an booklet that you are offering. The spiral represents visually that the customer may need to bind the book themselves. This also says that the contents is from 1-50 pages. Continue Reading…
